Clouds kissing water

embrace the tumultuous

churning, grateful waves.

Moonlight spotlight shines

on bears watching me watching

them pause mid‑scavenge.

Dragonfly flutters

across peony blossom

to land on my arm.

Crossing the Sound

I close the laptop on my lap,

and the door to my Toyota,

climb the steps to the passenger deck

and peruse the seascape.

Herringbone imprints on cerulean surface

lift and spill over one another.

Jellyfish float just under the Sound’s façade,

intertwined with seaweed.

I search the horizon for dolphin,

or seal, or visiting orca,

but my mind wanders—

Did I spend my time and money wisely?

Did I get everything I need?

Did I get enough done today?

Light entrapped by the water

flashes my senses:

pay attention to now,

pay attention to life;

whatever is—

is enough.
